This portrait engraving depicts Wenceslas Coeberger, a figure of significant administrative and artistic standing in the seventeenth-century Southern Netherlands. The work is part of the Iconography, a series of portraits of famous contemporaries initiated by Anthony van Dyck. Vorsterman, a master engraver, translated Van Dyck's painted study into this precise graphic medium.

Coeberger is shown in a three-quarter view, resting his arm upon a ledge. He wears the sober, dark attire typical of a high-ranking official or scholar of the period, featuring a stiff collar and a buttoned doublet.
