The title, translated as 'Wine Brings Man Out of Balance', describes the central action: a figure, clearly intoxicated, struggles to maintain his footing while consuming wine from a shallow bowl. A second figure, adorned with grape leaves, assists him, though the scene suggests a loss of control rather than mere support.

Coornhert employs the technical precision characteristic of sixteenth-century Dutch printmaking. The cross-hatching and fine line work define the musculature of the figures and the textures of the surrounding environment. In the background, a small, satyr-like creature carries a bunch of grapes, reinforcing the classical associations with Bacchus and the perils of indulgence. The architectural elements, including a distant rotunda, provide a sense of space that contrasts with the immediate, chaotic struggle of the foreground figures.
