Description
Wrekin rises beyond an old stone enclosure and sunlit fields, its compact wooded summit giving the Shropshire borderlands a warm, far-reaching outlook towards evening.
Rough pale stones form a low circular ruin in the foreground, with larger fractured rocks leaning beside it. A narrow path traces the hill's spine through dark green woodland and catches light where it reaches the rounded summit. Below, hedged fields lie in gold and green rectangles, their edges softened by scattered trees. Layered cream clouds hang over the level horizon.
The Wrekin has long been a fixed point above the plains around Telford, familiar from roads, fields and the climb itself. Someone who knows its slopes may recognise the route rising through trees, the summit rock and the broad farmland opening behind the hill.
