Description
Yoshitsune folds beneath Benkei's descending naginata while robes, armour cords and bridge rails compress their first exchange into a crowded diagonal, while descending naginata and Yoshitsune beneath the blade sharpen this particular moment.
Strength is not enough to catch an opponent who refuses to meet it directly. As Benkei brings the naginata down, Yoshitsune enters the narrow space beneath the weapon and turns the larger warrior’s reach against him.
This contemporary interpretation moves from the distant opener into a tight collision of bodies and equipment. Vermilion, green and black forms overlap like actor prints on a theatre bill, while the cropped rail keeps the fight anchored to the bridge. In Beneath the Naginata, descending naginata and Yoshitsune beneath the blade establish the vermilion green black rhythm assigned to scene 2. Its vermilion green black register binds Benkei in motion to bridge rail; this keeps Beneath the Naginata active rather than becoming a static portrait.
