This watercolour study by Adrianus Johannes Bik documents the waruga, traditional stone sarcophagi found in the Minahasa region of North Sulawesi. Bik, a Dutch official and amateur artist, produced these records during his travels through the Indonesian archipelago in the early nineteenth century. The work captures seven distinct funerary structures, each exhibiting unique architectural features and carved motifs.

Each sarcophagus is rendered with attention to its specific form, ranging from house-like structures with gabled roofs to more compact, block-shaped vessels.
