Johann Friedrich Müller
Johann Friedrich Müller spent eight years of his short life working on a single copper plate. This massive undertaking was an engraving of Raphael's Sistine Madonna. He finished the work in 1816 but died only a few weeks later at the age of thirty-four. Many contemporaries believed the physical and mental strain of completing the plate caused his early death.

Biography
Müller belonged to a family of skilled engravers in the Kingdom of Württemberg. His technique focused on line work that translated oil paintings into monochromatic prints. In his portraits of Martin Luther and John Calvin, he used precise burin strokes to define textures. He avoided blurred effects. His portrait of Raphael Sanzio shows a clear preference for the clean aesthetics of the Neoclassical period.
These prints offer a formal quality that suits minimalist or traditional interiors. The lack of colour allows the viewer to observe the technical skill of the engraver. Modern collectors value these works for their historical accuracy and the clarity of the compositions. They provide a link to the intellectual history of Europe through the faces of its most influential figures.
