


Johann Zoffany
Johann Zoffany was a German artist born in 1733. He trained in the workshop of Marteen Speer before working in Rome from 1750 to 1753. In 1760, he moved to London and changed his surname from Zauffely to Zoffany. He established his career in England, where he attracted the attention of King George III and Queen Charlotte. He painted a series of royal portraits and conversation pieces, which were interactive group portraits.

Biography
His work included theatrical conversation pieces depicting actors in their roles. In 1772, he became a member of the Royal Academy. He visited Florence between 1772 and 1778 to paint The Tribuna of the Uffizi. He continued to paint portraits of royal and wealthy families in London until his death in 1810.
