William Daniell
William Daniell (1769-1837) travelled with his uncle, Thomas Daniell, to India in 1785. They spent over two years in Calcutta working as engravers before beginning expeditions across the country. During these journeys, they collected material, painted oils, and produced finished drawings from sketches. The pair returned to England in 1794, where they continued to produce work based on their experiences.
Biography
Their output included the 144 aquatints of Oriental Scenery and numerous oil paintings. William Daniell also worked as an engraver for other artists, including Colonel Robert Smith.
