Description
Afon Tywi in Carmarthenshire winds through exposed gold sandbanks, with pale blue channels below wooded slopes and small white shore houses beneath the bright clouds of a late summer day.
Also known as the Towy, this river rises in the Cambrian Mountains and flows southwest through Carmarthenshire. Passing Llandovery, Llandeilo and Carmarthen, it reaches a broad estuary opening into Carmarthen Bay, completing one of the longest river journeys wholly within Wales.
The lower Afon Tywi spreads into a wide expanse of blue channels and warm brown sand. One narrow stream curves towards the foreground, its smooth surface reflecting the pale sky. Green and gold fields cover the far hills above a dark woodland belt. Small white buildings gather near the opposite shore, with clear light suggesting an afternoon in late summer.
