Alkborough looks over winding water and flat fields from a high grassy bluff, where Julian's Bower forms a circular turf pattern. This Alkborough Travel Poster pairs the old labyrinth with a small stone church and wide horizon.
Alkborough is viewed from its high grassy ground, with Julian's Bower cut into the foreground as a large circular turf labyrinth. A small stone church sits close to the bluff, beyond which broad channels turn through flat fields and pale sandbanks. The high sky gives the river country a long horizon.
The print makes Alkborough specific through the visible spiral of Julian's Bower rather than a general rural view. Anyone familiar with the bluff can follow the path from the labyrinth towards the water and the church. It finishes where the channels bend between the fields.
