Description
Bedford Purlieus in Cambridgeshire follows a reddish woodland track beneath tall leafy trees, with white wildflowers, golden canopy light and deep green undergrowth framing a quiet summer walk.
Bedford Purlieus is an ancient woodland and National Nature Reserve in Cambridgeshire. Coppiced areas provide habitat for dormice, and Roman archaeological remains survive within the wood. Its long ecological history supports a rich variety of fungi and invertebrates among the trees and woodland floor.
A russet path bends from the lower right towards a bright opening deep among the trees. Tall straight trunks stand beside smaller branching growth, with dense dark foliage behind. White flower heads rise above the near-left undergrowth. Sunshine picks out yellow-green leaves across the canopy, while irregular shadows lie over the track in the warmth of late summer.
