Description
Bulkeley Hill opens between trees onto village roofs and hedged farmland, with a broad sandstone shelf in warm sunlight above green ferns and the distant blue edge of the plain.
Within Cheshire's Peckforton hills, this National Trust wood covers just over thirty three hectares. The Sandstone Trail passes through its wooded slopes. A natural viewing platform above Bulkeley village looks south east towards Stoke across the surrounding agricultural plain.
The cracked surface of the outcrop occupies the right foreground at Bulkeley Hill, its pale stone cut by a deep dark cleft. Dense fern fronds rise beside the shaded tree trunk on the left. Beyond the woodland opening, scattered red roofs sit among small fields. Narrow hedgerows diminish across the level distance beneath a high blue sky with rounded white clouds.
