Yoshitoshi, also known as Taiso Yoshitoshi, is widely recognised as one of the last great masters of ukiyo-e, the traditional Japanese woodblock printing style. His career spanned the transition from traditional woodblock printing to modern, Western-influenced art forms. He is celebrated for his ability to blend traditional techniques with innovative themes and compositions. In this print, a geisha is depicted holding a fan, her gaze directed downwards with a subtle expression. The colour palette is subdued, featuring soft greens, reds, and pale blues, characteristic of ukiyo-e prints. The composition is carefully balanced, with the figure occupying the majority of the space, while the background features text and floating orbs.
