Watanabe Seitei, also known as Watanabe Shotei, was a prominent figure in the Meiji period art world. He trained under Kikuchi Yosai and later studied Western painting techniques, which he integrated into the traditional Kacho-ga (bird and flower) genre. This synthesis allowed him to achieve a level of naturalism that departed from the rigid conventions of the Kano school.
