He spent time in Prague as court artist to Emperor Rudolf II, whose menagerie provided him with ample subject matter. His style bridges late Mannerism and early Baroque tendencies. The painting presents a rugged, wooded scene with rocky outcroppings and distant architectural ruins. In the foreground, dogs attack a boar, while deer graze nearby, seemingly undisturbed.
