Description
Howardian Hills National Landscape surrounds a sloping sweep of bluebells beneath straight trunks, where pale spring light filters through green foliage and deepens into cool woodland shade.
Between the Vales of York and Pickering, these North Yorkshire hills rise above flatter farmland. Their limestone and sandstone support wooded ridges cut by small valleys. Country house parklands share the area with agricultural land and villages built largely in stone.
Bluebells spread almost continuously across the Howardian Hills National Landscape woodland here, broken by the dark bases of tall trees. The nearest flowers have drooping violet bells, while smaller marks carry their colour down the slope. Yellow green leaves catch light overhead. A few pale blue openings appear between the branches, and long shadows cross the flowered ground beneath them.
