To the left, figures gather around an outdoor fire, while the middle ground reveals a frozen pond where villagers engage in skating and other seasonal activities. Bruegel uses a muted palette of whites, greys, and pale greens to convey the biting cold, contrasted against the dark, skeletal silhouettes of the trees.
