This scene is from the Hebrew Bible, Genesis 27, in which Jacob deceives his blind father Isaac into granting him the blessing intended for his older brother Esau. Govert Flinck (1615-1660) was a Dutch painter of the Dutch Golden Age. He was a pupil of Rembrandt, and his style is similar. Flinck was successful as a history and portrait painter. He received commissions from wealthy merchants and the House of Orange-Nassau.
