The murderer occupies the lower left, his posture conveying panic as he looks back toward his pursuers. Below him, the pale, lifeless body of the victim lies on the ground, illuminated by a cold, moonlit glow. Above, the two winged figures descend from the dark sky. One holds a torch to reveal the truth, while the other brandishes a sword, ready to deliver retribution. The atmosphere is heavy with tension, created by the murky, nocturnal setting and the swift, diagonal movement of the figures.

Prud'hon was known for his ability to blend the rigid forms of Neoclassicism with a softer, more atmospheric approach to painting.
