Description
Killiecrankie in Perthshire opens across green fields and wooded riverbanks towards a pointed mountain, with pale cottages beneath broad white clouds in the bright afternoon light of early summer.
Killiecrankie lies beside a wooded gorge of the River Garry in Perthshire. The battle fought here on 27 July 1689 formed part of the first Jacobite rising. The river and surrounding woodland support red squirrels and pine martens, while paths link the pass with the nearby valley settlements.
Green fields slope towards a winding blue river enclosed by dense leafy trees. Pale cottages appear among the canopies, with dark conifer groups marking the lower hillsides. A pointed purple mountain rises between broader green shoulders in the distance. Long tree shadows stretch over the near grass beneath wide white cloud banks, suggesting clear early summer afternoon weather across the valley.
