Description
Langwathby in Cumbria gathers white cottages around a smooth green lawn, with a pale stone obelisk and leafy near tree below gold distant hills in bright early autumn afternoon sunshine.
This village lies on the eastern bank of the River Eden, around five miles northeast of Penrith. A large green forms its centre, beside the parish church and village buildings. The settlement’s name recalls an old ford across the river, later replaced by a sandstone bridge.
Langwathby has white cottages with dark slate roofs and tall pale chimneys facing a broad green lawn. A stone obelisk stands within a flower bed on the right, opposite a small metal pump enclosure. Pale posts line the far edge of the grass. Gold distant hills and a leafy tree casting broad shadows suggest sunny early autumn afternoon weather.
