Saint Jerome is shown in a state of contemplation, while Saint Francis is depicted in his characteristic habit, gesturing toward the central figures. Pontormo uses light to model the musculature and drapery, creating a sculptural quality that defines the forms. This piece reflects the artist's training under Andrea del Sarto and his subsequent departure toward a more subjective, expressive visual language.
