Description
Peterborough’s Guildhall lifts its clock above three arches, facing an open paved square and pale shopfronts beneath cloud bands in a deep blue sky.
Across Cathedral Square in Peterborough, the Guildhall stands at the left, its high clock set into a steep gable above the arcaded ground floor. Red brick and pale shopfronts continue along the right, beyond a broad stretch of stone paving. Rows of upper windows face the square.
The City Council dates the Grade II listed Guildhall to the 1600s. The pedestrianised square sits among city-centre shops and restaurants, so its civic frontage remains connected to everyday retail streets. The open public space allows visitors to take in the Guildhall and surrounding façades from one viewpoint.
