Description
St Ninian's Isle looks across its pale sandy tombolo towards the low Shetland hills, with clear turquoise water, a grassy near shore and exposed stone beside the curved beach.
A small patch of broken pale masonry lies on the near green slope, above a narrow rocky edge. Beyond it, the sand widens towards the opposite shore. Thin white wave lines trace the beach, with scattered light-coloured houses visible across the low rolling ground.
The retained photograph looks from St Ninian's Isle towards the tombolo that connects it with Mainland Shetland. This direction of view keeps the sandy link close to the water and the broad green setting. The empty shore and clear shallows provide a quiet counterpoint to the rougher stones and turf on the immediate island bank.
