Torii Kiyonaga, a central figure of the Ukiyo-e school, produced this woodblock print during the height of his career in the late eighteenth century. The composition depicts a scene from the legend of Ushiwakamaru, the childhood name of the warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune.
