Description
Yell opens along a low cliff-lined coast, where bright turf ends above dark rock and white Atlantic surf rolls towards the green headlands below the Hill of Brimness.
Flat stone fragments lie among short grass on the nearest ground. Beyond, a broken succession of grassy ledges drops into narrow rocky inlets. White water curls around the projecting points, separating the dark cliff bases from the clear turquoise sea beside them.
This stretch of Yell lies below the Hill of Brimness in Shetland, as recorded in the retained coastal photograph. The low skyline and repeated headlands give the shore a long, open rhythm. There are no buildings competing with that edge of grass, rock and moving water, leaving the coast itself to carry the view.
