This engraving by Hieronymus Wierix, a member of the prolific Antwerp family of printmakers, depicts an allegorical representation of the theological virtues. The composition is structured around a central figure of Charity, who holds the infant Christ while another child reaches towards her. Flanking this central group are Faith, holding a cross and chalice, and Hope, shown in prayer with an anchor. Above the figures, the Holy Spirit descends in the form of a dove, surrounded by rays of light and clouds.

The lower portion of the print features a large, stone-like pedestal inscribed with the Latin text 'Passio Domini Nostri Iesu Christi', indicating its function as a title page or frontispiece for a devotional series. Wierix demonstrates his technical precision through the use of fine, controlled lines to model the drapery of the garments and the musculature of the figures. The shading is achieved through a combination of hatching and cross-hatching, which provides a sense of volume to the figures despite the relatively small scale of the original plate.

As a practitioner of the Northern Mannerist style, Wierix prioritised clarity of form and symbolic accuracy.
