Description
An anonymous traveller crosses the field beneath a vast fox tail shadow, while separate foxfires make the hidden kitsune presence visible in a stark moment of transformation.
The figure keeps moving, but the shadow has stopped belonging to an ordinary traveller. A black tail rises behind the plum robe in a broad arc, turning the path into a place where disguise can no longer hold. Small lights remain on the ground as witnesses to the change.
Large flat shapes and an uneven folk painting surface give this panel its severe graphic force, with ochre paper, charcoal ink, plum cloth and coral marks carrying the action from across a room. This contemporary interpretation is the third work in the four print sequence, where the fox spirit becomes legible without reducing regional traditions to one fixed story.
