Description
From the saddle, Yoichi reaches full draw as his face, hands and long yumi align against the tiny fan moving over the distant sea.
Accuracy alone cannot answer the Taira challenge. The archer must control his breathing while a horse shifts beneath him and gusts turn the offered fan above the vessel. Here the story pauses at maximum tension: the bow bends, the string is held, and no one yet knows whether the missile will fly true.
This contemporary interpretation abandons the wide view for an urgent crop around eye, fingers and lacquered weapon. Ochre armour collides with the animal's black mane, while one small vermilion shape preserves the daunting distance. Heavy key lines and compressed forms give private concentration the force of a public contest.
