Description
Braced against the pitched deck, Tomomori drags pale rope around a giant iron anchor as timber, armour and straining hands meet on one diagonal.
Later performance traditions recast the warrior's death through the image of Ikari Tomomori, inseparable from an enormous anchor. This episode enters that lineage before the famous descent. Preparation becomes exertion: weight resists, cord tightens, and the defeated commander chooses the terms of his final movement while the vessel pitches beneath his armoured feet.
This contemporary interpretation crowds the viewpoint against the vessel's boards. Saturated indigo and vermilion collide beneath muscular black outlines, with the rope driving through the picture like a drawn stroke. Cropped equipment presses in from every side. The bodily struggle creates the collection's most compressed colour strike and sharply contrasts with the distant opening panorama.
