This woodblock print by Ippitsusai Bunchō depicts the Oiran Chōzan of the Chōjiya house. It belongs to the series titled Love Letters, a collection that explores the refined world of the Yoshiwara pleasure district. Bunchō, active during the mid-Edo period, is recognised for his yakusha-e (actor prints) and bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women). His work often features slender figures with elongated features, a stylistic choice that defines his contribution to the Ukiyo-e genre.

The composition shows Chōzan accompanied by a young attendant, or kamuro. The figures are positioned beneath a large, yellow parasol, which provides a geometric contrast to the falling cherry blossom petals. The grey background suggests a cool, atmospheric setting, perhaps an evening stroll during the spring season. The artist employs a restrained colour palette, allowing the soft pinks of the garments and the bright yellow of the parasol to draw the eye. The delicate line work captures the texture of the textiles and the subtle expressions of the subjects.

Bunchō was a contemporary of Katsukawa Shunshō, and the two collaborated on the famous book Ehon Butai Ōgi. His prints are valued for their technical precision and their ability to convey the specific social status of the courtesans he portrayed.
