This engraving by Zacharias Dolendo depicts the legendary siege of Weinsberg in 1140. According to the narrative, King Conrad III granted the women of the city permission to leave with whatever they could carry on their backs. To the surprise of the monarch and his troops, the women emerged from the city gates bearing their husbands, thereby saving them from execution. Dolendo captures the moment of the king's observation, positioning him in the foreground with his retinue, while the women proceed in the middle distance, burdened by the weight of their spouses.

The composition reflects the conventions of late sixteenth-century Dutch printmaking. Dolendo employs a high vantage point to organise the complex scene, allowing for a clear view of the city walls, the encampment, and the surrounding terrain. The figures are rendered with precise, rhythmic hatching, a technique common to the period that defines form and texture through the density of line.
