Description
Achnasheen in Wester Ross spreads through sunlit green fields beside winding blue water, its small white buildings dwarfed by the broad smooth slopes surrounding the Highland valley.
Situated on the River Bran in Ross-shire, the village occupies a junction between roads built by Thomas Telford. Its railway station opened in 1870 and served a wide part of Wester Ross, giving this small inland settlement importance as a transport connection.
Achnasheen appears as scattered pale buildings among angular fields, with a blue watercourse looping behind the houses. Thin roads and tree lined boundaries trace the valley floor below a wide shoulder of open hillside. Golden grasses enter the foreground, while large cloud shadows darken the farther slopes. Full trees and mixed green and tawny vegetation suggest late summer in clear, changeable daylight.
