Denis-Auguste-Marie Raffet, a draughtsman and lithographer, utilised the medium to provide biting social and political commentary on the July Monarchy. The work depicts a group of figures in military and courtly attire gathered around a central throne, which is adorned with symbols of the French state, including the Gallic rooster.
