Description
An architectural elevation drawing of a temporary monument built for the 1795 Alliantiefeest in Amsterdam, rendered in ink and watercolour.
This architectural rendering depicts the temporary monument erected on the Botermarkt in Amsterdam for the Alliantiefeest, or Festival of the Alliance, held on 19 June 1795. The celebration marked the alliance between the Batavian Republic and the French Republic following the Batavian Revolution. The design reflects the Neoclassical aesthetic prevalent in late eighteenth-century Dutch civic architecture, characterised by a formal, symmetrical arrangement and the use of classical motifs.
The structure features a central pavilion flanked by two smaller, open-arched wings.
