Amberley in West Sussex combines castle walls and an old church with Arun valley country, seen here beyond grazing cattle, deep green hedges and gently layered distant hills.
Amberley lies in West Sussex beside the Arun's tidal plain, where the Wild Brooks wetland floods in winter and supports wildfowl. The village's historic core includes a fortified manor house and neighbouring Norman St Michael's church, linking its buildings with the wider valley landscape.
Across a smooth green pasture, cattle graze below a pale castle gateway with twin rounded towers. A church rises to the right among dense trees, its warm stone standing against cooler distant fields. White flowers brighten the shadowed foreground beside a wooden gate. The full foliage and blue sky suggest summer, while soft lavender hills give depth to the open countryside behind the village.
