Description
An Sgurr on Eigg, Highland, forms a dark craggy skyline above smooth green slopes, with scattered pale boulders and purple heath adding colour to the island's open ground.
The highest hill on Eigg reaches 393 metres and is formed from resistant pitchstone. Erosion removed softer surrounding basalt, leaving the former valley filling standing above its surroundings, a striking example of inverted relief on this Inner Hebridean island.
The long rock wall of An Sgurr rises in dark grey tiers, ending in a blunt high point at the right. Broad grassy folds descend beneath it, alternating between lime green sunlight and cool olive shadow. Pale boulders lie beside purple plants in the near heath. A bright turquoise sky and large white clouds suggest a mild summer day, with clear light revealing the cliff's vertical cracks.
