The angarkha is a traditional garment from the Indian subcontinent, worn as a tunic or coat. This specific example displays the technical mastery of South Asian weaving traditions, particularly the use of brocade, or 'kinkhwab'. The fabric features a repeating circular motif, executed in metallic thread against a muted ground. This creates a subtle shimmer that shifts with the light, a characteristic feature of high-quality silk textiles from the nineteenth century.
The construction follows the classic angarkha form, which involves an asymmetric opening that overlaps across the chest. The garment is secured with ties, often finished with decorative tassels.
