Description
Applecross in Wester Ross looks across silver blue water towards distant pointed hills, with a shaft of golden light and dark shoreline trees giving the coastal scene evening depth.
On the western side of its Highland peninsula, the village faces the Inner Sound. These waters separate the mainland from Raasay and other Inner Hebridean islands, placing the settlement within a coastal landscape of sheltered bays, crofting ground and distant mountain outlines.
The Applecross shore is framed by slender trees, fern fronds and rounded rocks. Beyond a narrow stony beach, a golden reflection runs across calm grey blue water towards layered mountain silhouettes. Heavy slate coloured clouds part overhead, sending distinct sunbeams towards the distant land. The leafy foreground suggests the warmer months, while the low light gives the scene the quiet atmosphere of an approaching evening.
