Description
Avon passes through Fordingbridge in Hampshire as a blue, tree-sheltered river, with waterside houses and broad reflections connecting the town to its historic crossing and valley setting.
The Hampshire Avon follows the western side of the New Forest through Fordingbridge and Ringwood towards Christchurch Harbour. At Fordingbridge, a settlement recorded as Forde in Domesday, a seven-arched medieval bridge remains one of the town's best-known features beside the river.
This view concentrates on open water below brick and cream houses. Dark trees enclose the right bank, and lighter foliage partly conceals the buildings opposite. Pale clouds repeat as broken shapes on the blue surface. Full leaves suggest summer, with bright daylight picking out the upper walls while the near river margin stays shaded. The sheltered channel leads gently towards the town.
