Description
Axe Edge Moor in Derbyshire lies beyond rolling green farmland, with stone field boundaries, scattered farmhouses and a sharp grassy rise beneath a wide sky of softly lit clouds.
Southwest of Buxton, this Peak District upland reaches 551 metres and is largely formed from shale and sandstone. It gives rise to several rivers, including the Dove, Manifold, Dane, Wye and Goyt, while its southwestern flank meets the boundaries of three counties.
The landscape towards Axe Edge Moor opens over smooth green pasture into a web of dark stone walls. Farm buildings sit among a small group of trees on the right, reached by a curving pale lane. A steep grassy ridge interrupts the middle distance, with broader moorland beyond. Cream and lavender clouds spread above sunlit slopes, suggesting late summer afternoon light.
