Description
Aylsham in Norfolk leads past pale shopfronts and a red striped awning towards a church tower, with flowering planters and leafy shade softening the quiet market-town street.
This historic town lies on the River Bure north of Norwich. Linen and worsted production brought medieval prosperity, and Henry VIII granted a regular Saturday market in 1519, helping establish its lasting role as a trading centre for the surrounding agricultural district.
At Aylsham, cream buildings with slate dormers and tall brick chimneys curve towards a square stone church tower. A red and white awning projects above the nearest shop, with flower-filled boxes along the pavement. Leaf shadows fall across the unmarked road. Warm façades, open blue sky and abundant flowers give the street an early summer brightness.
