Description
Ben Macdui opens the Cairngorms into a rocky highland panorama, where snow patches, dark corrie walls and a blue mountain loch reveal the scale of this Moray border summit.
At 1,309 metres, Ben Macdui is the highest mountain in the Cairngorms and the second highest in the British Isles. Its broad plateau lies on the Moray and Aberdeenshire boundary, forming part of a high upland landscape very different from the surrounding lowland country.
From pale foreground boulders, the view drops towards dark corrie walls and a small blue loch. Rounded purple ridges carry scattered snow patches, with successive hill silhouettes fading into the distance. Low heather adds muted colour between the rocks. The remaining snow and purple vegetation could suggest late summer at altitude, while clear daylight makes the deep corries stand out against the softer summit slopes.
