Description
Ben Rinnes rises above Moray's green farmland in a broad purple summit, where heather, grey boulders and dark shelterbelts connect the lower fields with the open uplands of Speyside.
At 841 metres, Ben Rinnes dominates the lower reaches of Speyside in Moray. Its summit is distinguished by large granite tors known as the Scurrans. From different directions the hill can appear as a strongly shaped cone above the surrounding settled and agricultural country.
Here a broad purple peak rises beyond green fields divided by dark tree belts. Small pale farm buildings sit low on the slopes, while grey boulders interrupt the heather in the foreground. Cream clouds stretch across a clear blue sky. Flowering purple vegetation suggests late summer, with warm light on the fields contrasting against the cooler, almost treeless upper mountain.
