Description
Ben Stack in the far northern Highlands catches golden light above russet moorland, its rugged summit and dark lower crags rising beside a quiet road through the Sutherland hills.
Ben Stack rises to 721 metres in Sutherland, northwest Scotland. It stands southeast of Laxford Bridge and northwest of Loch More. Although lower than the nearby Munros, its steep rocky profile makes it a conspicuous feature of the open country through which the A838 passes.
A pale road bends towards a cluster of green trees below the mountain. Rust red heather covers the foreground, interrupted by strips of yellow grass and low dark shrubs. The summit’s rocky ribs are warmed orange, while the lower cliff bands fall into deep blue shade. Large cream clouds and clear side lighting suggest a bright autumn afternoon in the far north.
