Description
Big Moor opens from weathered gritstone blocks towards a wide patchwork valley, with purple heather and a high pale sky sharpening the sense of exposed ground.
A heavy grey escarpment projects from the right, its horizontal layers fractured into ledges, shelves and loose slabs. Smaller stones spill down the slope in the foreground, threaded with coarse grass and bright purple heather. Far below, muted fields stretch in long bands towards a blue horizon, while broken white cloud moves across the open upper sky.
Big Moor is presented from the edge of its stony ground, where the immediate weight of the outcrops contrasts with the distance beyond. The viewpoint makes room for both rough moorland texture and the ordered valley below, echoing the changing scale of a walk across exposed upland terrain.
