Description
Bishop Wilton in East Yorkshire follows a shallow beck through its village green, where open grassy banks and red-roofed houses give the Wolds settlement a gentle rural shape.
Four miles north of Pocklington, Bishop Wilton lies in the East Riding of Yorkshire beneath the higher ground of the Wolds. A large green occupies the village centre, and a beck runs through it, making water and common grass central to the settlement’s layout.
The narrow stream winds towards pale cottages and brick houses set above either bank. Silver-blue reflections brighten the channel, with white flowers and long grass close to the viewer. Sloping lawns open into a broad hollow between the houses. Full green trees, red chimney pots and high banks of white cloud bring a fresh, early-summer feeling to the village.
