Description
Black Chew Head overlooks a blue reservoir from a weathered gritstone edge, where heather and distant moors give Derbyshire a wide, wind-shaped feel towards the north.
Large pale boulders lie among purple heather in the foreground, leading towards a long broken escarpment of dark rock. Below it, a strip of conifers follows the slope down to the water, while folded brown, olive and blue hills extend beyond the far shore. Broad cream clouds cast soft tonal changes across the moorland.
At Black Chew Head, the reservoir gives the high ground a clear point of orientation. Walkers on the exposed edge may recognise the rough stones underfoot and the sudden drop towards the water, while people familiar with the Peak District can return to the long sequence of moor, crag and distant ridge.
