Description
Black Linn Falls in Perthshire pour white water between dark boulders beneath dense green trees, with mossy ledges and a bright blue sky opening overhead on a fresh summer afternoon.
These falls carry the River Braan through the Hermitage near Dunkeld. The surrounding woodland was laid out as an eighteenth century pleasure ground for the Dukes of Atholl. Ossian’s Hall, built in 1757, overlooks the cascade, while salmon pass upstream towards their spawning grounds in autumn.
Black Linn Falls divide into foaming white channels around tall dark rocks. Blue water tumbles down stepped ledges from the narrow wooded reach above. Moss clings to boulder tops along both banks, beneath thick leafy canopies and straight shaded trunks. A small blue opening between cream clouds provides a bright contrast to the green enclosure, suggesting fresh summer afternoon light.
