Description
Bowfell in Cumbria stands above a small blue tarn in long grey cliff bands, with green shelves and rust near grass beneath pale cloud towers on a sunny afternoon at summer’s end.
This 902 metre mountain stands at the head of Great Langdale, where its eastern ridge separates Mickleden from Oxendale. Eskdale lies to the southwest and Langstrath to the north. Angle Tarn occupies a hollow beneath the northern crags, while the summit rises as a rocky pyramid above a wider plateau.
Bowfell has a rocky upper pyramid above a long wall of grey cliffs and pale scree. A small dark blue tarn lies in the grassy hollow below, with layered mountain ridges extending behind the crest. Low rock ribs cross the near green shelves among rust grass patches. Pale cloud towers suggest sunny afternoon conditions towards the end of summer.
